ABSTRACT
In The Circle, a completely open and transparent community design is presented to the audience. The film tries to test how far the advance technology can be taken to “make everything visible, share everything”. In this study, the discussion of the possibility of the ethical siege of the digital siege of technological culture, which includes fundamental philosophical issues such as moral decision, free will, freedom of choice and determination, is re-discussed through The Circle. In the study, an analytical film analysis based on literature review was made. In a digital society where everything is visible, knowable and predictable, can people make ethical choices? Is a person who knows that he / she is being watched morally free in his / her decisions and actions? Can people be held accountable for their decisions under absolute transparency and keen supervision? This research, which focuses on ethical and ethical debates, shows us that in a culture where digitalization accelerates and technological singularity extends the domain of technological singularity, as proposed in the Circle movie, building openness ethics as a digital ethical theory has many dilemmas that have not yet been overcome. Oversight effect, restricting free will can be seen as an element that destroys the possibility of ethical choice. The current relationship between intimate issues and malicious situations are deceptive. Everything that is personal doesn’t have to be bad. The claim that anything we do not want to explain can be bad is an eco-political coercion. It seems quite difficult for openness ethics to free itself from concepts such as supervision, surveillance and control, and to make room for free will.

ÖZ
The Circle (Çember) filminde tümüyle açık ve şeffaf bir toplum tasarımı izleyiciye sunulmaktadır. Film, gelişen teknolojinin "her şeyi görünür kılma, her şeyi paylaşma" çabasının ne kadar ileri götürülebileceğini test etmeye çalışmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, dijital kültürdeki teknolojik kuşatmanın ahlaki karar, özgür irade, seçme özgürlüğü ve belirlenmişlik gibi köklü felsefi meseleleri içeren etik tercihin imkânı, The Circle filmi üzerinden yeniden tartışmaya açılmaktadır. Araştırmada literatür taramasına dayalı analitik bir film okuması yapılmıştır. Her şeyin görülebilir, bilinebilir ve öngörülebilir olduğu dijital bir toplumda, insanlar etik tercihte bulunabilirler mi? Gözetlendiğini bilen bir kişi, verdiği kararlarda, gerçekleştirdiği eylemlerde ahlaken özgür müdür? Mutlak şeffaflık ve keskin gözetim altında aldıkları kararlardan kişiler sorumlu tutulabilir mi? Ahlaki ve etik tartışmalara odaklanan bu araştırma, dijitalleşmenin hız kazandığı ve teknolojik tekilliğin etki alanını genişlettiği bir kültürde, The Circle filminde önerildiği gibi, bir dijital etik teorisi olarak açıklık etiği inşa etmenin henüz üstesinden gelinmemiş birçok açmazı olduğunu göstermektedir. Gözetim etkisi, özgür iradeyi kısıtlayan ve bu yüzden etik tercihte bulunma olanağını yok eden bir unsur olarak görülebilir. Mahrem konular ile kötücül durumlar arasında kurulan güncel bağıntı aldatmacalıdır. Kişiye özel olan her şeyin kötü olması gerekmez. Açıklamak istemediğimiz her şeyin kötü olabileceği iddiası, eko-politik bir zorlamadır. Açıklık etiğinin denetim, gözetim ve kontrol gibi kavramlardan kendini arındırması ve özgür iradeye yer açması oldukça zor görünmektedir.
